Geograff

The last few weeks of university have been crazily busy trying to complete all work on time. Aside from a portfolio deadline tomorrow the course is practically over and all that remains is the show. This, I feel, is more important than most things we have achieved over the last few years as it gives us our first real opportunity to showcase our work to the industry.

I decided for my FMP to explore the relationship between people and locations, to look at the way people move about and interact with the spaces around them. This project took the form of a geotagging site where users can tag and add locations to the site and in return can print off special QR codes, return to that location and stick them physically to enable other users to find where they are.

This interplay gives a more complete experience to the user and hopefully as a result builds a relationship and trust between users and the integrity of the site.

D&AD Lectures

As the Spring 2008 D&AD lectures have been announced, I quickly rushed to order tickets for both the Pecha Kucha and Experimental Jetset talks in April and June. Looking forward to seeing both and am now just waiting on my tickets to arrive.

Shaun, Jordan and I spent last night drinking in the excellent company of Reading Room who hosted the first Bladdered Again of 2008 at The Exchange Bar in Chinatown.

A highly enjoyable night was had by all and several interesting people were met, including Phil Jones and Clare from Sports England. Sadly the photographer at the event managed to miss me for the entire evening… Perhaps next time.

Royal Opera House Posters

After a lot of hard work and several sleepless nights, Shaun and I finally submitted our piece for the D&AD Royal Opera House brief.

Fingers crossed for its inclusion in the awards come May.

Creative Futures 2

November 28th, 2007 | 0

For the second evening in a row I was at 3ROOMS for a Creative Futures talk, however it was Matt, Pete and I who attended.

The first speaker was Roel Wouters. He used almost entirely in camera effects to create his videos, as well as a style involving living sculpture to create the scenes and convey the message. After his talk we approached him and asked about the processes he used, as well as how he gets his inspiration and funding for projects.

After a short break David o”Reily took to the stage to talk about his animations. Interestingly, he confessed that the idea of being a ‘future star’ of the industry made him apprehensive about the expectations placed on him.

David had left university after only 6 months, and started working with some of the guys from Shynola which is an incredible break in itself, however he then, among other things, moved to Berlin. The image above can’t come close to revealing the complexity and quality of his work.
